How to block TikTok and Instagram on iPhone
Open an app blocker built on Apple's Screen Time frameworks, such as FocusPass, and select TikTok and Instagram in Apple's app picker (or the whole Social category). Opening them then shows a shield. With FocusPass you can still use a short timed Pass to reply or post, and the apps lock again when it ends.
Updated
Interactive demo: tap a protected app, then choose Go Back or Use a Pass and watch the Pass expire and relock. Nothing on your phone is blocked.
Step by step
- Install FocusPass and tap CREATE MY FIRST BLOCK.
- Allow Screen Time access when Apple asks.
- Select TikTok, Instagram and any other feeds in Apple's picker.
- Choose a plan, such as 3 Passes of 10 minutes a day, then turn protection on.
- Optional: select the websites too, so the shield also applies in Safari.
What can't be blocked separately
Screen Time-based blockers work on whole apps, categories and websites. They can't block one feature inside an app, such as Reels in Instagram or Shorts in YouTube. If that feature is your problem, shield the whole app and use timed Passes for the parts you need.
Keep messages within reach
If you mainly use Instagram for messages, a 5-minute Pass with the reason Reply keeps the visit short. The shield returns when the time is up.
Platform limits worth knowing
FocusPass uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity). iOS shows the shield and handles relocking; FocusPass never sees what you do inside other apps, and Apple doesn't let apps read that.
TikTok and Instagram are trademarks of their owners. FocusPass isn't affiliated with them.
Common questions
Can I block TikTok on iPhone without deleting it?
Yes. Shield it with a Screen Time-based blocker like FocusPass. The app stays installed, and you can open it with a timed Pass when you choose to.
Can I block only Instagram Reels?
No. Apple's Screen Time frameworks block whole apps, not features inside them. Shield Instagram and use short Passes for messages.
Will TikTok or Instagram know I blocked them?
No. The shield is shown by iOS on your device. FocusPass doesn't connect to those apps or post anything.
