How to block distracting apps during work hours

Schedule a Work Focus Zone for your working hours, for example weekdays 9 AM to 5 PM, so distracting apps are shielded automatically. When work genuinely needs one, such as posting an update or replying to a client, use a short timed Pass with a reason. Apps you mark as essential stay open.

Set it up in FocusPass

  • Pick the apps that pull you away in Apple's picker: social, video, news or games.
  • Create a Work Focus Zone and choose the days and hours.
  • Mark essentials, like your calendar, email or authenticator, so they're never shielded.
  • Choose a Pass plan for the exceptions, such as 3 Passes of 10 minutes.

If your job involves social media

Blocking everything doesn't work when posting is part of the job. Use a Pass with a reason like Post, so each visit has a purpose and an end. FocusPass Pro adds more Wallets, so work apps and personal feeds can follow different rules.

A simple workday rhythm

Try two Deep Focus blocks of 60 to 90 minutes in the morning, then batch messages and posts into one or two Passes in the afternoon. Use the planner above to print a version that fits your day.

Platform limits worth knowing

FocusPass uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity). iOS shows the shield and handles relocking; FocusPass never sees what you do inside other apps, and Apple doesn't let apps read that.

FocusPass runs on iPhone and iPad. It doesn't block apps on a Mac.

Common questions

Can I block apps only on weekdays?

Yes. Focus Zones run on the days and hours you choose, so a Work Zone can cover weekdays only.

Can I still use Slack, email or my calendar?

Yes. FocusPass only shields the apps you select, and essentials are never shielded.

Will my employer see what I block?

No. FocusPass has no account and keeps your rules and history on your device. Nothing is shared with anyone.
